Year 9 Unit 2: Lesson 1; May 24 2011.

Today was the first lesson of the second unit in the Film course. Our theme of the unit was focusing on Zhang Yi Mou, a famous Chinese director known for his films Hero and Raise the Red Lantern. Before we left for the China Experience Program, we had already chosen the people in our groups. My group consisted of Jen, Erik and Alex. Jasmine was our musician.

For today's lesson, we first discussed what type of mood and genre we wanted to our film to be along with supporting the music requirements. Jasmine had to create a piece that involved "A, B, Av, C, A". We used these notes and based them on what type of mood was in the story. "A" would be the happy mood, so the story begins and ends happy. "B" would be the sad mood. "Av" would be a mix between a happy and intense mood. "C" would be the mood of suspense. And the last "A", would be the same as the first.

Basically, we decided on a very simple story that only has 3 characters according to our film members. It starts off with a father and son living a very happy life. Suddenly, a stranger comes out of the blue and kills the father which the son has no reason why. The son then becomes very determined to kill the stranger and avenge his father. He is found by a kung fu professional and she trains him for the battle. In the end, he kills the stranger and leads his life into triumph.

Overall, I had fun creating the story and I cannot wait to film it.
